We are committed to student success and improvement. Students, teachers and parents place high standards on academic excellence. We continue to focus on the areas of reading, math and writing. Students in need of additional assistance receive interventions in the area of reading and math. We strive to improve the climate of the school by improving attendance and recognizing positive student accomplishments.

Masks Optional but no Longer Mandatory EXCEPT on buses.

As of July 6, social distancing and face masks are welcome but no longer required in our schools and district buildings. This applies to all summer school programs. On July 9th, we received notice from the federal government that masks are required for any on a bus.

Governor Brown has rescinded Executive Order 21-06 which forced schools to comply with health and safety protocols to slow the spread of COVID-19. Following Brown's announcement, the Oregon Department of Education released its new 2021-2022 Ready Schools, Safe Learners Resilience Framework, which provides advisory guidance, and replaces Oregon's 2020-2021 Ready Schools Safe Learners document as of June 30th.. The new guidance allows local districts to determine best pracitices for their students and schools.

KFCS students and staff may continue to wear face coverings if they choose to do so. The guidance says that face coverings protect the wearer, so the district believes that this is the best of both worlds.

The district will continue its cleaning and disinfection protocols in all buildings as well as other safety measures. Hygiene etiquette will remain an important prevention tool for students and staff. We also want to remind parents to keep children who are not feeling well home from any school programs or activities.

As we did this past year, Klamath Falls City Schools will work with Klamath County Public Health in determining how best to move forward. Our plans are to return to a normal school year schedule with full-time, in-person learning without face coverings and other restrictions. That decision, however, will not be finalized until after the Oregon Department of Education puts out new guidance in late July.

The best way to ensure this happens is to continue to practice health protocols – washing hands, covering coughs, and staying home when you are sick. Vaccination is considered the most powerful tool for stopping the spread of COVID-19. Everyone age 12 and older is eligible for a free vaccine. If you have not yet, consider getting vaccinated this summer.

We will provide our staff and families with updated information in August. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
