The 2026–27 school year is officially underway at Klamath Falls City Schools, and students across the district began the year with plenty of excitement, smiles and memorable first-day experiences.

At Pelican Elementary, students were welcomed back in style as the school rolled out the red carpet for its young learners, creating a special entrance to kick off the new school year. Mills Elementary students were welcomed by familiar staff and participated in class goals through Capturing Kids' Hearts.
Meanwhile, a new chapter began at Klamath Union High School, where freshmen walked through the halls of KU for the first time, taking their first steps into their high school experience.
For incoming sixth graders at Ponderosa Middle School, the first day was designed to help students feel at home in their new building. Students were welcomed with music, decorations and a morning focused on getting to know their school, their classmates and the people who will support them throughout the year. Ponderosa 6th graders participated in team-based activities and rotated through six stations, including a scavenger hunt, before taking part in a building tour and expectations walk.
The day also gave Ponderosa's newest Bobcats an opportunity to practice the routines that will soon become part of their everyday school experience. Students learned about their schedules and lockers, participated in outdoor activities and free play, and later traveled through a mock seven-period schedule to become more familiar with moving around the building before the regular school routine begins.
