The Agriculture Science & Technology program and Eagle Ridge FFA Chapter have been hard at work this fall, showcasing their knowledge and skills in multiple Career Development Events (CDEs) while engaging in exciting classroom projects.

Over the past week, FFA members participated in two District Level CDE competitions. Members attending were Braydon Berhurst, Aden Jimenez, Maddie Pennington, Noelle Perez, Rose Purkhiser, Aiyanna Peterson, and Jessica Schei. A special recognition goes to Braydon Berhurst, who placed 10th high individual at the Southeastern District Food Science and Technology CDE.

Nine members competed at the Agriculture Sales CDE hosted at Bonanza High School. The Advanced Team placed 5th, and the Beginning Team placed 3rd. Members attending included Mason Bernel, Michael Driskell, Christopher Herandez Plascencia, Sherry Schei, Teresita Wright Jackson, Reece Covey, Iris McCray, Sailas McGinnis, and Ruby Villarreal.

The Eagle Ridge FFA Advanced Food Science and Technology Team will now advance to compete at the State Event at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.

In the classroom, Agriculture Science and Technology students have been exploring a variety of hands-on learning topics. Introduction to Agriculture students are creating presentations on innovations in food science. Introduction to Horticulture students are studying the importance of native plants in ecosystems and identifying species native to Eastern Oregon. Fish and Wildlife students are studying fish populations and the impact of fishing around the state. Animal Science students recently completed a unit on bones and are now studying the respiratory systems of livestock and poultry.

A special shoutout goes to our Agriculture Science and Technology Rising Stars: Gabriel Webb and Iris McCray.

Congratulations to all of our hardworking students for their dedication, teamwork, and outstanding representation of Eagle Ridge!
