A throwback Thursday, of sorts, to the first weeks of school in Ponderosa Middle School's physical education classes with Joel Woodley and Josh Overstreet.

Before getting their PE shirts, Ponderosa students had a free for all playing soccer, basketball, or volleyball, a glimpse into what classes would be like when the weather begins to be too cold to be outside.

The physical education department at Ponderosa strives to provide every student with the opportunity to develop lifelong fitness habits, strengthen individual skills and understand the importance of staying active.

Students are guided by three key principles:

Be Responsible: Come prepared with the proper uniform and shoes, stay in assigned areas, and make up any missed work.

Be Respectful: Show good sportsmanship, use positive language, and follow directions the first time asked.

Be Safe: Use equipment properly, keep hands and feet to themselves, and ensure water bottles are labeled.

Activities and Curriculum

Students participate in a variety of individual and team sports, including basketball, volleyball, softball, dodgeball, rhythms and dance, weight training, yard games, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, soccer, flag football, and more.

Grading and Assessment

Grades are determined by preparation, participation, and sportsmanship (70%) as well as tests, quizzes, and skill assessments (30%).

The PE staff’s goal is to help students grow in confidence, fitness, and teamwork, all while having fun.
