With the 2026–27 athletic season getting underway, Klamath Union Athletic Director Tyler Baker brought together KU’s head coaches in fall, winter and spring sports today for a preseason meeting focused on preparation, communication, accountability and building a strong culture across Pelican athletics.

Baker emphasized the important role coaches play both on and off the field, reminding coaches that their influence extends far beyond wins and losses.
“Your impact is huge,” Baker told the coaches. “They look up to us. Hopefully, we’re their mentors. I almost feel like we’re parents.”
The meeting also focused on creating greater consistency and accountability in areas such as student attendance, academics, behavior and participation. Baker encouraged coaches to continue working together to help establish a culture where student-athletes are supported both as competitors and as students.
Baker also reflected on the progress of KU Athletics and the excitement surrounding the upcoming year as Klamath Union fall sports just wrapped up its first week of practicing.
“I don’t know the last time I would have said there’s a chance that all of our fall sports can make it to the postseason,” he said. “So that’s super exciting. It’s a huge breakthrough.”
The coaches also worked through important operational topics, including transportation, purchasing, fundraising, communication and resources available to support their programs.
As the meeting ended, the message from Baker was clear, encouraging the veteran and new coaches he has for the upcoming school year.
“I just want you guys to know, as coaches, that your impact is huge," Baker said. "Just know your impact is huge. I appreciate everything you do.”
